Ive had these issues for months now...
1. Anyone who has or have owned a 93-96 cadillac fleetwood know the only way to shift is by pressing down the brake, then youre able shift to reverse... it has some sort of locking mechanism where you have press the brake first... on my car i can shift without pressing the brake... i used to have to press the brake to shift to reverse, now idk what happened? Anybody know how i can fix it?
2. Anyine who has or have owned a 93-96 cadillac, knows once you shift into reverse, your doors automatically lock.. my car doesnt do it anymore.. they do lock with no problem, but just trying to figure out how i can fix this.. anybody ever have this happen?
3. Well like in any car, when you reverse, your reverse lights turn on, and well thats how you know its in reverse.. so when i shift from park to reverse, but shift really slow, the lights turn on, but when it actually shifts onto reverse, they turn off.. hope this makes sense.. anyone have this issue? Somebody know how i can fix this?
Thanks guys for the help in advance..

Sounds to me like u have a damaged steering column. This happens to lowriders over time when you hit the switches with the steering wheel locked. All the shock rebounds back up the column and damages all the little aluminum parts in the column. My monte had the same issue.
Your second question sounds like a body control module issue or it could be related to the same damaged steering column.
And your last question sounds like a neutral safety switch that's gone bad. This device keeps u from starting your car in reverse or drive but it also controls backup lights. It may also send a signal for the body control module so the doors will lock. Do this put it in reverse then try to start your car. If it starts then the neutral safety switch is bad and needs replacement.

Thanks bro.. ill look into that... but where is that switch... you know i just remember i was trying to kill a big ass spider and i was kicking around where the brake and gas pedal is at... i noticed it stopped doing it after i kicked right above the brake pad... didnt think nothing of it since it has a cover... not sure what the name is though..

here is an example of a GM steering column and where the parts are located. in 93 GM was still using the pretty much the same column in all their vehicles so u should find them like in the picture.

I did my homework on the last part of your problem with the steering column. It appears that your BTSI (Brake Trans Shift Interlock) accuator is stuck in the open position (no homo). Its not a critical piece but if you have kides I would fix it. I have a diagram I can upload tomorrow to show you where it is on the column.

sometimes its just the fuse, my expedition locked up on me the other day I thought it was the nuetral safety switch luckily I decided to check da fuses before tearing apart the column.

By the way thats exactly what my expo did, It wouldnt shift out of park so I thought it was the nuetral safety switch but then I noticed that the int. lights weren't working or the automatic door locks thats when I checked da fuses,it saved me time and money....

In this case the vehicle shifts out of park with out pressing the brake. This year model caddy has a brake trans shift interlock accuator that has gotten stuck with the pin out. He may even be able to shift into gear without the key. This is a common problem with this style of column. It should get its signal from the brake light swiitch and he says the brake lights work. The other problems where directly related to the neutral safety switch and when he replaced it his problems went away. Fords have a different way of wiring things. The fuse marked interior lights often shares that fuse with the Body Control Module(BCM) the BCM should control fords version of the shift interlock. When that happens on the explore there is a small hole under the steering column where u can insert a thin screw driver and unlock the shifter so u can put it in neutral. This also makes them easy to steal ;D I mean tow.

check both the signal light flasher and the hazard flasher. when you switch the the lever to use the turn signal does the light for that side some on or not. if it comes on then you might just have a light out. if not then there may be no power or a problem with the turn switch internals inside the steering column. those can be replaced but you gotta pull the steering wheel off. also check where the harness from the turn signal switch assembly to where it connects to the base of the column.
